The recently concluded E3 2018 gaming expo has been taken over by the Fortnite frenzy. The viral mobile game, which competes with another massively popular one, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), has already set records — making $100 million in worldwide player spending on Apple's mobile platform iOS.

According to Sensor Tower report, Fortnite reached the feat in roughly three months since its launch on March 15. The game had raked in over $25 million during the first month on mobile and recently crossed $45 million, said the report.

"The mobile version of Fortnite has also earned 335%, or about 4.3x, more than its closest revenue rival among the new breed of battle royale titles on mobile, Knives Out from NetEase. What's more, it managed to earn approximately 65% as much as Supercell's Clash Royale did in its first 90 days, a title that had the most successful launch in mobile gaming history next to Niantic's Pokémon GO in terms of revenue," said the report.

Sensor Tower also explains why it has kept the popular PUBG out from the comparison.

"It has only been monetising for 60 days and it hasn't reached $100 million in player spending. According to our latest estimates, it has considerable ground to cover, having only grossed about $5.2 million to date on iOS, as its publisher works out the best way to monetise its mobile player base. Tencent appears to feel that adopting an objective-based approach similar to Fortnite's Battle Pass, calling it a Royale Pass, is one way to close that gap. It just launched today, so we'll be keeping an eye on how it affects PUBG Mobile's revenue generation," the report said.

Fortnite is set to be one of the most successful games for Epic Games, a studio that has made some massively successful games like Unreal Tournament and Gears of Wars. Back in April, a SuperData report had rated Fortnite the most successful free-to-console game in the history.

"Epic's Battle Royale shooter made $296 million in April across Console, PC and Mobile, up from $223 million in March," said the report. Fortnite was rated above the likes of Gods of War, FIFA 18 and Call of Duty: WW11. WATCH: Fortnite steals the show at E3 2018
