Tech Wrap: Apple WWDC, Mixer shutting down and more

Apple’s WWDC event took place late last night but the buzz continued till the entire today and it’s still going on. Apple made a slew of announcements which define what its ecosystem for the next year. While everyone was busy with Apple, Microsoft launched its consumer version of Teams.

Microsoft also made a surprising announcement of shutting down its gaming platform, Mixer. In India we got a new home-grown web browser launched by a Bengaluru startup. What’s else? Marvel Avengers has been confirmed for Xbox Series 5 and PlayStation 5.

Apple WWDC

Apple previewed the latest software updates like iOS 14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 7 and more. iPhone users will get more customisation options like Android users with iOS 14. Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams will now be accessible to more people with its personal version rolling out on Android and iOS. The free version of Teams comes with features like texting, location sharing and video calling. Microsoft Teams existing users can switch to the personal version within the app itself.

Mixer shutdown

Microsoft is not only shutting down Mixer but redirecting all its traffic to Facebook Gaming. Microsoft admitted that Mixer was struggling to catch up with YouTube and Twitch, and this transition will help gamers get more visibility. Mixer will officially shut down in July.

Bharat browser

Amid the anti-China sentiments there have been many “Made in India” apps launching in India. Bharat browser is the latest one and it’s a web browser that is designed for Indian users. It’s available on Android and it’s sized just 8.2MB. Bharat browser is aimed at providing regional content and optimised for low-cost Android phones in India.

Marvel’s Avengers

Marvel’s Avengers has been confirmed for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 that will launch later this year. Existing players can upgrade for free to the next version if they switch from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X. the new Marvel’s Avengers is said to come with faster load times, boosted resolution and fidelity, improved texturing and armor destruction.
