YouTube starts testing PiP mode in iOS 14, here’s what it means

For those following iOS 14 features and developments, it should come as a surprise that the OS version is bringing PiP (Picture-in-Picture) mode this time. The feature has been present for iPad users ever since iOS 9 but is now there in iOS 14, which is currently in beta mode. And with the latest YouTube app update, the Google-owned firm has started testing the same. This comes as a post by several users on Twitter (via 9to5Mac). Some reports also say that this feature is working only for a few videos, indicating that YouTube is still implementing it.

If you are an iOS 14 beta version user and have PiP mode enabled, you might just be able to see YouTube videos in a small box while working on different apps in the background.

As per the reports, the feature seems limited to YouTube Premium right now, which indirectly means you would have to pay for it currently. However, who knows it might be available for non-premium members as well by the end of this year. In India, YouTube Premium starts at ₹129 per month for Android users but since Apple usually gets a cut of its own for payments made in apps via the App Store, it charges you ₹169 per month.

PiP mode is just one of the several new features coming to iOS 14. Some other key features include Widgets, Smart Stacks, third-party apps as default, feature-rich Apple Messages, better security and privacy in Safari and more.
