Amazon Alexa gets support for Netflix, Hotstar and more apps on Fire TV Stick

Amazon Alexa voice commands can now be used to browse and search content, and even control playback on Fire TV Stick.

Amazon has added new features for its virtual assistant Alexa on Fire TV Stick. Alexa support for multiple apps like Netflix and Hotstar is now available, and it’s something many users have been asking for a long time.

Alexa on Fire TV Stick can now be used to browse and search content across different apps including Netflix, Hotstar, Zee5, Voot, JioCinema, Apple TV+, Sun NXT, MX Player TV, Eros, TVF Play and Viu. Amazon has also added support for Alexa playback control on YouTube, Netflix and Jio Cinema.

There’s a microphone button on the Fire TV Stick remote which has to be long pressed to use Alexa. This support is for Fire TV on Echo devices too. Users can try out Alexa commands like “Alexa, find comedies” and comedy content from all these apps will appear in the search results.

More Alexa commands that can be used include “Alexa, play Sacred Games on Netflix” or “Alexa, play movie trailers on YouTube” or, “Alexa, forward thirty minutes” or “Alexa, rewind twenty seconds”. Note that playback control is available only on four apps mentioned above.

Amazon also shared a list of Alexa commands that can be used on Fire TV Stick. These are -

“Alexa, play cricket highlights on YouTube.”

“Alexa, play Stranger things on Netflix.”

“Alexa, play Love Aaj Kal on JioCinema.”

“Alexa, play Jack Ryan.”

“Alexa, pause.”

“Alexa, fast-forward 5 minutes.”

“Alexa, rewind 5 minutes.”

“Alexa, play.”

“Alexa, next episode.”

“Alexa, last episode.”

“Alexa, start over.”

“Alexa, restart.”
