Android TV’s one-click subscription feature is being tested by Google: Here’s how it will work

Android TV is about to get one of the features that was introduced by Google last year during the IO conference - easy one-click subscriptions. This was showcased alongside the new UI, which has already rolled out. However, now the company has published a new support page detailing the one-click subscription functionality and has confirmed to Android Police that it is already under tests.

As mentioned in the support page, the Android TV one-click subscription will give users two options while installing an app that supports subscription: Free trial & install, Subscribe & install. Tapping on either option will auto-generate your account using your Gmail address and you will also get an email to finish the setup process. However, in case you want to manage or cancel a subscription, it won’t be possible from the TV itself. You will require a separate phone or a computer for that.

As mentioned by a Google representative to Android Police, the feature is being tested with limited Android TV apps for now. You may not find one-click subscription on any app for now though. The search giant however, has not yet revealed which apps will get this feature first and when will it arrive. “We’re always working on improving the user experience for Android TV users. This feature that we are piloting with select partners make it easier to subscribe and install apps in Google Play more quickly,” said Google in a statement.

Earlier this month, Google rolled out a feature for its Android TV that lets users add their Android TV to their speaker group. This in turn would allow users to broadcast content from their Android TV to all the corners of their house.
