Google has just announced the Android 11 Developer Preview for Android TV. Of what we know so far, this is only an operating system framework update and there is no information about how the user interface will look like on the new iteration of Android TV. The current version on all Android TVs right now is the 9 Pie which has been around for quite some time now.
Android TVs have been due for an update for a while now and an update was announced back in December 2019 but at that point only the company’s developer-focused ADT-3 dongle was announced along with a new version (Android TV 10). However, it’s 2020 now and there’s no sign of the Android TV 10.
Google’s developer blog post announces that Android 11 Developer Preview for Android TV will come with privacy, performance, connectivity and accessibility updates and is meant only for developers who have the ADT-3 dongle. This is indicative of the fact that Android TV 10 might finally be close to being launched since Google is stepping up developer testing for the Android 11 version.
Besides this, a video clip showing Google’s upcoming Android TV streaming dongle, the one codenamed Sabrina, has surfaced. This device is expected to be the first consumer device to run on the new version of Android TV.
