PatchWall Replay 2020: Here is what Indians watched on Mi TVs

Mi India on Thursday released its annual trend report that focuses on how the audience consumed content. Titled PatchWall Replay 2020, the study is based on an evaluation of consumption patterns of more than 5 million users.

According to the report, PatchWall registered more than 14 billion interactions across different categories such as movies, TV shows, music, kids entertainment, and more.

According to the report, there was a 2.5x surge in the number of users watching movies on weekdays as compared to 2019, making views increase by 97% in the movies category. Top titles that trended in 2020 are Laxxmi, Dil Bechara, Angrezi Medium, Lootcase, Chhalaang, Khaali Peeli and Chintu Ka Birthday.

“July was ruled by Sushant Singh Rajput, and soon India’s focus shifted to cricket in August. Akshay Kumar and Mulan made highlights in November and December respectively. According to the report, April to August were blockbuster months, because of movies releasing on OTT platforms during that time,” said the report.

In the TV shows segment, there was a 133% increase in engagement. Shows such as Mirzapur 2, Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, Pataal Lok, Sam Jam, Loser, Geetha Subramanyam were a big hit, according to the report.

The reruns of classics from yesteryears such as Mahabharat, Ramayana, Devon ke Dev..Mahadev and Shaktiman also did well. There were more than 3 million interactions across these shows.

Other highlights

- Regional content saw a 56% increase in viewership in 2020. The top languages that saw an increased consumption trend were Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, Bengali.

- Fitness-based content was also quite popular as the category recorded a whopping 93% increase in views.

- Music remained one of the biggest categories. According to the report, more than 20 million minutes were spent by PatchWall users.

Badshah, Arijit Singh, the duo Vishal-Shekhar, A.R Rahman, and Neha Kakkar ruled the charts the whole year. Some of the popular music videos on PatchWall are Genda Phool, Illegal Weapon, Dus Bahane, Bhankaas, and Khulke Jeena ka.
