Samsung introduces 8K QLED TV with Wi-Fi 6E, MediaTek SoC

Samsung on Tuesday introduced what it is describing as the world’s first 8K QLED TV. The company’s newly launched Samsung 8K QLED Y21 TV. The newly introduced TV is a successor to the 8K TVs with Wi-Fi 6 connectivity that were launched in 2020.

Samsung's newly introduced TV is powered by MediaTek’s MT7921AU system-on-chip and it comes with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 for connectivity. The company said that Wi-Fi 6E is designed to make use of the 6GHz spectrum. It not only offers a faster multi-gigabit data throughput but also offers lower latencies and connection reliability features.

“Consumers depend on fast, reliable connectivity, whether they are using their TV for streaming, gaming or following along with workouts. Our collaboration with Samsung has been instrumental in bringing consumers the latest smart TV technology to support these uses and beyond,” Jerry Yu, MediaTek Corporate Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Intelligent Devices Business Group said on the occasion.

“With our advanced connectivity technologies – including WiFi-6 support – integrated into Samsung’s 8K TVs, we’re driving the premium smart TV segment forward globally,” he added.

There is no word on pricing and availability in India yet.
