CES 2022 saw Intel announcing its 12th Gen “Alder Lake” processor and it was obvious to expect an answer from AMD. Hence, at its CES keynote, AMD announced the brand new Ryzen 6000 series processors for laptops alongside the Ryzen 5800X3D CPU and host of updated Radeon graphics cards. AMD claims massive performance gains in comparison to the Intel 11th Gen processors.

The Ryzen 6000 series mobile processors are mostly built for improved power efficiency but the performance gains are noticeable, especially when it concerns graphics. Ryzen 6000 powered laptops are coming by February 2022 from key OEMs such as Asus, HP and Lenovo, although an exact launch date is yet to be announced.

AMD Ryzen 6000 laptop processors revealed

There will two variants of the Ryzen 6000 series processors catering to different kinds of notebooks. The AMD Ryzen 6000 U-Series processors are optimized for of performance and efficiency in thin and light notebooks, says AMD. For gamers and power users, the Ryzen 6000 H-Series processors is present.

The CPU is built on the 6nm process and is using the updated Zen3+ architecture. This promises up to 40 percent power efficiency gains while doing simple tasks such as watching Netflix or doing light browsing. However, compared to the previous generation Ryzen 5800U, the 6800U processor is 28 percent faster.

When it comes to graphics, there's a massive leap. AMD has given the 6000 series the power of the RDNA 2 graphics and that translates to much improved graphical intensive tasks such as gaming and video editing. you get features like hardware-accelerated ray-tracing, two times larger L2 cache, DirectX 12 Ultimate support and overall 50 percent faster engine. AMD says that this RDNA 2 based graphics offers notable gains over the Intel Core i7-1165G7 and NVIDIA GeForce MX450, while it is two times faster over the Vega graphics in the Ryzen 5000 series.

The Ryzen 6000 series also features advanced connectivity such as Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2 with LE audio. There's support for PCI Gen 4 storage and LPDDR5 memory.
