Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is more mind blowing than just its 200MP camera! Our First Impressions are LIVE

The Motorola Edge 30 Ultra comes to India with a 200MP camera sensor. This is, however, one of the coolest Android flagships of 2022. Here are our first impressions.

Motorola has bored us for most of the first half of 2022! An endless streak of dull and dreary Moto G phones had made me and my team believe that Motorola is simply in a survival mode rather than be the cool brand it once was. There were a few exceptions, like the Motorola Edge 30 Pro, which gave us an idea that someone at Motorola is eager to do some fun phones. With the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, Motorola has shown it means business when it comes to fun flagships.

Costing Rs. 59,999, the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is simply astonishing. For less than what an iPhone 14 costs, Motorola has stuffed a 200MP camera sensor, paired it with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a 125W fast wired charging for the 4610mAh battery, and 50W wireless charging too. And after spending a few days with this Motorola flagship, I think Samsung and even Apple may need to reconsider what they do with their “reasonably priced flagships”.

Move beyond that sexy design and the Edge 30 Ultra takes its specifications seriously. Here is a quick look at the head turners:

- Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which impresses with its power efficiency and thermal management.

- 3 assured Android upgrades and 4 years of security patches. Sadly, it is on Android 12 now.

- 6.67-inch FHD+ OLED display with curved edges and 144Hz refresh rate, which is smooth on animations and vibrant with colours.

- 125W charging on a 4610mAh battery, which promises a top-up under 30 minutes. There's 50W wireless charging too.

However, the 200MP resolution main camera is the phone's biggest draw. Based on the limited time I have spent with it, this 200MP camera impresses with capturing details. The pixel binned 12MP photos are brimming with finer details in both day and night conditions, while the 200MP Hi Res mode lets you get those brag-worthy digital crops. More than that, I am impressed with the colour science Motorola has adopted here.

I will have more to share on the other two cameras in our full review but until then, all I can say is that Motorola has done a good job with the camera tuning. Another thing that impresses me is the battery life and thermal control, both of which are much better than what I saw on the Motorola Edge 30 Pro.

For a phone that costs Rs. 60,000, I am impressed with what the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra has to offer. It has only been a few days but I can confidently say that the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is more than just brag-worthy numbers. That 200MP camera seems to work as advertised, and the rest of the phone maybe superior to the Samsung Galaxy S22. Will this prove to be a better phone than the Apple iPhone 14? You will need to wait for a few days to find out.
