The dark comedy Darlings had created a hype even before the first trailer was released. The protagonist of the movie Alia Bhatt also makes her production debut with this film. Bhatt has had a great 2022 so far after missing from the silver screen in 2021. So far, she has featured in the record-breaking blockbuster RRR alongside Ram Charan and N.T. Rama Rao Jr. (Jr. NTR) and played the titular character of Gangubai Kathiawadi in the biographical crime drama. Towards the end of the year, she will play the love interest of real-life partner Ranbir Kapoor in the highly anticipated fantasy adventure Brahmastra. And in the middle of it comes Darlings. The story revolves around a couple where the husband is an alcoholic and physically abuses his wife. So the wife, played by Bhatt, creates an elaborate plan to treat him the same way and to make him see his mistake. The movie talks about the serious issue of domestic violence and how people suffer from it in modern India. The movie uses dark comedy elements to add a layer of humor to the serious issue.
The movie is also set to be Bhatt's first venture as Producer as she collaborates with Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment. Earlier, she said in a statement, “We are very proud and happy how the film has shaped up and we hope it will entertain and engage audiences world over”.
The OTT release date of the movie was on August 5, 2022 and right now it is available to stream on Netflix. The Netflix original movie made a straight-to-OTT release and can be watched by anyone who has the subscription to the streaming platform. Those of you who do not have a subscription should know that its cheapest subscription is priced at Rs. 149 where users can watch the contents on the streaming platform only on their mobile devices and for Rs. 199, you can watch it on larger displays as well but the resolution will be capped at 480p.
