LAUNCHED: Nikon's first Android camera

When Nikon's Coolpix S800c launches in September, it will be the first camera running on Android. The camera operates on Android Gingerbread (2.3) and its specs include a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, a 3.5 inch touch screen, an 10x optical zoom and a GPS.

When Nikon's Coolpix S800c launches in September, it will be the first camera running on Android.

The camera operates on Android Gingerbread (2.3) and its specs include a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, a 3.5 inch touch screen, an 10x optical zoom and a GPS.

Its Wi-Fi connection will enable users to download apps from Google Play, such as photo-editing software and games, but also to upload pics and vids to social networks.

Boasting plenty of alluring photography and video features, the Coolpix S8000c will ship late September for €379 / $350.

Nikon is also launching three other Coolpix cameras in September.

The Coolpix P7700 model packs in the most features, including a 1/1.7-inch 12.2-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, 7.1x zoom lens (with a maximum aperture of f/2), 1080p movie mode, Lens-Shift Vibration Reduction and full manual control. It will sell for €499 / $499.

Nikon's Coolpix S6400 boasts a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 12x active zoom that can be used both for photographs and videos. Its 3-inch touch screen helps navigate through its numerous creative effects. It will sell for €229 / $249.

Nikon is also launching the Coolpix S01, a mini-compact that will be smaller than a credit card. The diminutive device will include a 3x optical zoom and will be able to record videos in HD (720p). It will sell for €149 / $180.
