For a series that transitioned to a third-person perspective in 2001 and stuck with it ever since, its behind-the-protagonist viewpoint has become iconic as other juggernaut franchises championed the adrenaline rush afforded by a more immediate, through-the-eyes viewpoint.
It's a feature that enthusiastic fans managed to crowbar into the PC version of 'Grand Theft Auto IV,' and one that was said to have a transformative effect on the experience, making players better able to appreciate Liberty City's looming towers as well as their own place within a swarm of pedestrians and road users.
Now that apocryphal experience is being embedded into the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions of 2013's blockbuster on November 18, and the PC version once it arrives on January 27, 2015.
'This new mode gives players the chance to explore the world of Los Santos and Blaine County directly through the eyes of their character, revealing all the world's glorious details in an entirely new way,' explains the studio's Rockstar Newswire.
'We've made a host of changes to accommodate this new perspective, including the creation of an optional first person cover system, a new targeting system, a more traditional FPS control scheme, and integrating thousands of new animations into the existing game,' it expands, with players able to switch between the traditional and newer perspective at the touch of a button.
