Microsoft to launch a new webcam at spring event

Microsoft is planning to launch a device that it hasn’t in a long time. The company is planning to launch a new web camera at its spring event.

Microsoft offers web cameras under its LifeCam brand. However, the company hasn’t updated its webcam lineup in almost a decade with LifeCam Studio being the last device to be launched under this branding. Now, as per a report by Petri (via The Verge), the company is planning to launch a new webcam at its Surface spring event.

The report says that the new webcam will have a privacy cover and support for high-dynamic-range (HDR) video. The company, however, is not likely to include support for videos with 4K resolution in case of its upcoming webcam. It also remains unclear whether the upcoming device will feature support for Windows Hello face recognition system.

In addition to a web camera, Microsoft is also planning to launch a new Surface laptop at its upcoming event. This new laptop will be powered by a mix of Intel’s 11th generation processors and AMD chipsets. Separate reports have also hinted towards the Surface Laptop 4 being available in 13.5-inch and 15-inch variants with the Intel variants getting up to 32GB RAM with up to 1TB storage and the AMD variants getting up to 16GB RAM with up to 512GB storage.

The same report states that Microsoft is also likely to launch peripherals at its upcoming event. The company, however, hasn’t commented on the matter yet. So, we will have to wait for a word from Microsoft to say more about its upcoming devices.
