Apple’s macOS Big Sur 11.2 update inches closer to public release

Apple has released the second release candidate version of the macOS Big Sur 11.2, indicating that a public launch is coming close. You can download it from Apple Developer Centre if you are a part of the Developer Beta program and use a device that can run beta software. In case your device is already running the beta version, this update should come over-the-air. It is possible to check for the public beta version at the Apple Beta Software Program site.

From the looks of it, the update seems to bring under-the-hood improvements along with some bug fixes. Here’s what is mentioned in the release note:

-External displays may show a black screen when connected to a Mac mini (M1, 2020) using an HDMI to DVI converter.

-Edits to Apple ProRAW photos in the Photos app may not save.

-iCloud Drive could turn off after disabling the iCloud Drive Desktop & Documents Folders option.

-System Preferences may not unlock when entering your administrator password.

-Globe key may not display the Emoji & Symbols pane when pressed.

It is worth mentioning that this second release candidate version comes a few days after the company released the first RC build of macOS Big Sur 11.2. The RC build came after two beta versions which came out on December 16 and January 13.

It is recommended not to install this version in your primary device as it can lead to data loss. If you do install it, them make sure you have a backup of files on iCloud.
