Apple cautions MagSafe charger can leave imprints on iPhone 12 leather cases

Apple launched the iPhone 12 series consisting of the iPhone 12 Mini, the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max, earlier this month. Along with the series 12 iPhones, the company also launched the MagSafe wireless charger. Now, Apple has updated its support pages to explain the users as to how users should use the MagSafe charger.

Apple says that users don’t necessarily need to connect the MagSafe charger to a 20W adapter. The adapter needs to be at least of 12W power for the charger to work. However, if users do decide to use a 12W adapter, the iPhone will charge less quickly compared to when they use a 20W adapter. Users can also connect the charger to a USB Type-C port on a Mac or to a third-party adapter that comply with its applicable safety requirements.

Apple also says that users should remove objects such as credit cards, hotel key cards, or transit cards if they are placed between the iPhone 12 and the MagSafe charger. Leaving these objects between the charger and the iPhone 12 while charging can damage their magnetic strips or RFID chips. Users, however, can leave their MagSafe cases in place.

The company says that as with other wireless chargers, the MagSafe Charger might get slightly warmer while your iPhone charges. “To extend the lifespan of your battery, if the battery gets too warm, software might limit charging above 80 percent. Your iPhone or MagSafe Charger could get warmer and charging could take longer after heavy use. Your iPhone will charge again when the temperature drops,” the company wrote.

Lastly, Apple said that if users keep their iPhones in a leather case while charging them with the MagSafe charger, the case might show circular imprints from contact. So, it is advisable to remove the leather case from the iPhone while charging using a MagSafe charger.
