Good news! Windows 11 may be available as a free upgrade for these users

Will it, or won't it? Will Windows 11 download be free? That s the question on everyone's mind as the launch nears. Microsoft is hosting a special event on June 24, wherein it is expected to launch the Windows 11 operating system. While Microsoft hasn’t exactly announced the agenda for its upcoming Microsoft Event, but the company has been teasing the launch of ‘something new’ from its official Windows handle on Twitter. This perhaps, indicates Windows 11 is indeed coming. Well, as far those interested in freebies are concerned, there is likely some good news in the offing.

Windows 11 free download

Now, a report by XDA Developers suggests that when launched, Windows 11 will be free to download for Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 users. The publication has accessed Windows 11 product configuration keys. This key features support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. The key also has a file for Windows 8, but the publication says that the operating system isn’t supported. This means that Windows 8 users will not be able to upgrade their devices to Windows 11 for free.

Thankfully, there’s a way around it. The publication says users, who are running Windows 8 on their personal computers and desktops will first have to update their devices to Windows 8.1. In doing so, they will be eligible to upgrade their devices to Windows 11 for free.

As far as Windows 10 is concerned, users will be able to upgrade their devices to its successor, that is, Windows 11 for free. It is similar to the way Microsoft enabled Windows 8.1 users to upgrade their devices to Windows 10 for free to boost adoption.

In what will come as a surprise, Windows 11 OS has leaked ahead of its purported launch date of June 24. However, the leak has given a sneak-peek into Windows 11 and this indicates it will come with a redesigned user interface and menu bar.
