Microsoft Edge still on second spot, Mozilla Firefox loses market share

The most popular browsers have been Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. But ever since Microsoft Edge launched, a new competitor arrived in the top tier. Edge browser beat Firefox to take the second spot in April this year. Microsoft is continuing to maintain this spot with even more market share.

Google Chrome continues to be the top browser with 71% market share according to NetMarketShare. Microsoft Edge continues to be in the second spot with its market share increased from 0.87% in June to 8.46% in July. Firefox which still takes the third place actually dropped to 7.27% in July. The browser had 7.58% share in June. This was first reported by Hot Hardware.

The battle browser seems to be between Firefox and Edge now. Google Chrome is still untouchable and would need a lot of time for either of the browsers to catch up. It’s worth mentioning that Microsoft has been aggressively pushing its Edge browser to users, especially on Windows 10. Chrome also occasionally “advertises” Chrome among users.

The list continues with Internet Explorer in fourth place with 5.99% share followed by Apple’s Safari with 2.95% share. Microsoft moved to Google’s Chromium open-source engine for Edge making it more accessible to non-Windows devices and offering cross-platform support. Microsoft continues to make its browser user-friendly. It recently rolled out ‘Quiet notifications requests’ in Edge 84 that manages website notification requests. It clubs all these requests under a bell icon so users can manage them properly.
