According to an insider, Windows 10X OS is never going to see the light of day in its current form. And while we wait to know for sure, Microsoft is going to work on improving Windows 10.  (Microsoft)

Microsoft has reportedly decided to delay the release of the Windows 10X operating system and has pushed it back to 2021 end. In the meanwhile, it is going to focus on improving Windows 10. This bit of news comes courtesy insider Brad Sams and we don’t know why Microsoft has decided on this yet. The idea behind developing Windows 10X is to create a lightweight, optimised version of Windows 10 and is made for tablets with single or dual screens. The developers of Windows 10X have simplified the interface and removed the “live tile” from the Start menu to improve system performance.

According to Sams, the Windows 10X OS is never going to see the light of day in its current form. He believes that customers “do not need a new system” and the improvements they do need can be incorporated into Windows 10. Among the things customers need, launching applications in a secure virtual environment and a new interface are two important features.

As The Verge pointed out, the idea behind Windows 10X was to compete better with Chromebooks, a device that Microsoft sees as a threat. However, the global pandemic has increased the demand for Windows computers and this could be one of the reasons why Microsoft has taken the decision to push back a new OS.

Windows Central states that the next major update that is going to roll out for Windows 10 is going to be Sun Valley. It can be presumed that the developers working on that will change the Start menu and will also allow creators of applications on the Microsoft Store to use third-party services for payments.

Additionally, there is a sweeping redesign on the cards with Sun Valley, we told you about this yesterday, you can read the details here. Essentially, Microsoft is going to redesign the icons on Windows 10 and get rid of the Windows 95-era icons that are still visible. Some of the new icons were spotted in March this year and we now know that Microsoft is going to replace all outdated icons.
