Microsoft to bring Google Chrome-like File Explorer tabs in Windows 11 soon

If you’re a PC user, then you must have used browsers like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. They have an important feature which allows you to open multiple tabs side by side. This is a great feature which lets the user switch between different tabs seamlessly. Now, Microsoft is testing a similar feature with the File Explorer.

According to the Verge, Rafael Rivera, the developer of volume control app EarTrumpet discovered this feature in a Microsoft Build in March. Microsoft later confirmed these reports that it was testing the file explorer tabs feature. Windows Insider blog also confirmed that the company was testing out this feature along with a host of others in Windows build 25136.

Microsoft is planning to bring the File Explorer tabs feature alongside some dynamic features such as widgets in the upcoming updates.

Microsoft’s Senior Program Manager Brandon LeBlanc tweeted, “We got a new build for #WindowsInsiders in the Dev Channel! This build has some really cool new features rolling out (note what we say in the blog post - they are rolling out and not available to everyone right away). Read the blog post for all the details.”

Initially, the features will be available for people in the Windows Insider program who test out these features for any bugs, glitches or performance issues. Only then they will be released to the public via an update.
