Microsoft announced while launching Windows 10 that they had plans of creating a Settings app. But the Control Panel in question, that was going to be replaced by the Settings app would be around till the Settings app was developed properly and rolled out. Windows 10 still sports the traditional Control Panel that we've seen since it was first launched in Windows 8.
Microsoft pushed out a basic Settings app with Windows 8 that came with some features that let users customise the OS etc. There was also the Control Panel that could be used for more advance features.
This initial Settings interface, over time, was made more functional and stable. And while the Control Panel continues to be a part of Windows 10, Microsoft has plans to kill off the System applet of the Control Panel, according to a report in Windows Latest.
The Windows 10 Build 20161, that was shipped as a part of the Windows Insider program, saw Microsoft redirecting Control Panel’s System page to the Settings’ About page. Microsoft has also updated the ‘About’ page under Settings and it now has the ability to copy your device information etc.
While this kill and bury is not an immediate plan, it is in the works. Users will be getting the Control Panel, as is, till 2021 a least.
