OnePlus finally took the wraps of its much hyped OnePlus 7 series. The new flagship series features OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro.
This year OnePlus took a different turn by launching two phones at the same time. OnePlus 7 Pro is the premium model of the two which is usually represented by the 'T' version. The company has not confirmed if it will launch a 'T' version of OnePlus 7. The new OnePlus 7 Pro succeeds last year's OnePlus 6T with upgraded design, features and specifications.
Comparing the two OnePlus models, here's why one should upgrade or not.
OnePlus 7 Pro vs OnePlus 6T: Design
The OnePlus 6 series was a testament to the company's change in design and look for its phones. With the OnePlus 7 Pro, it's an even bigger testament as OnePlus has skipped the notch altogether for a bezel-less display. The selfie camera is now a pop-up snapper as seen in Vivo and Oppo phones.
You also get a curved display similar to phones like Huawei P30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10+. OnePlus 7 Pro also comes in new colour options like 'Nebula Blue' and 'Almond'.
In comparison, OnePlus 6T has a dewdrop styled notch on its display wrapped in a glass back. With the OnePlus 6T, there are many design options to choose from including a 'Thunder Purple' colour and McLaren edition.
OnePlus 7 Pro has a more premium and trendier design, but the OnePlus 6T doesn't look dated either.
OnePlus 7 Pro vs OnePlus 6T: Performance
As seen in every OnePlus flagship, OnePlus 7 Pro is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. The smartphone offers up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage. It is fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery along with Warp Charge 30 fast charging.
OnePlus 6T is still one of the best performing smartphones even with last year's Snapdragon 855 chipset. OnePlus 6T is available with up to 10GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The smartphone packs a 3,700mAh battery with support for the older Dash Charging. OnePlus 6T McLaren edition comes with Warp Charge 30 along with the 10GB of RAM.
On the software front, both OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 6T run on Android 9 Pie based OxygenOS. The two OnePlus smartphones are also eligible for Android Q beta update.
Camera
Camera will be a big deal breaker between the two phones as OnePlus really upped its game this time. In addition to the pop-up 16-megapixel selfie camera, OnePlus 7 Pro has triple rear cameras. The triple-camera setup features a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens and a16-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens.
OnePlus 6T has a dual-camera setup of 16-megapixel Sony IMX519 sensor and a 20-megapixel secondary camera. It also has a 16-megapixel camera but with a different Sony IMX371 sensor.
Although the difference in sensors is huge, both phones offer the same camera features like AI scene detection, portrait mode, night mode, studio lighting, and super slo-mo video recording.
OnePlus 7 Pro vs OnePlus 6T: Price
OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a higher price tag starting at ₹48,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant. OnePlus 6T starts at ₹37,999 for the base model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The biggest upgrade here is the camera and design in comparison to the OnePlus 7 Pro. However, the OnePlus 6T still retains premium features in terms of performance. If you're not crazy about camera and design, you can hang on to your OnePlus 6T.
