Windows 11 users will likely NEVER get this feature! Microsoft explains why

There is one feature that the latest Windows 11 users won't ever get! It is the 'seconds' on the taskbar clock that will not return to Windows 11! While most users are not into rocket science and don't really need it, yet it was something that always caught the eye during an idle moment and for some reason, it was quite captivating- in the olden days. However, there are some reasons behind why Microsoft killed off the seconds on its watch. In a Feedback Hub post, Microsoft explained it all. Here's what Microsoft has to say.

Microsoft said in a Feedback Hub post that, “Please note, at this time showing the seconds in the flyout is not supported, however your interest in this has been shared with the team for future consideration.”

Though, this wasn't the case in the 1990s when taskbar supported seconds in the clock format. But later the option became optional due to performance issues. And it was quite noticeable in the systems which had only 4MB of memory. But in the era of RAM as high a 8 GB, the situation is different. So why not bring back the seconds onto the clock?

Microsoft explains that "Although it’s true that computers nowadays have a lot more than 4MB of memory, bringing back seconds is still not a great idea for performance." It further says, "On multi-users systems, like Terminal Servers, it’s not one taskbar clock that would update once a second. Rather, each user that signs in has their own taskbar clock, that would need to update every second.” That means once a second, a hundred stacks would get paged in so that a hundred taskbar clocks can be repainted, which is generally not a great thing, since it basically means that the system is spending all of its CPU updating clocks.

Hence, the answer for not including the seconds in the taskbar clock is still…’Performance’.

So, on one hand is the feel-good factor and on the other is performance. Considering it is the age of logic, reason and revenue, we guess most everyone will be opting for the later. And that means- 'Adieu, seconds.' Fortunately, we still have watches ticking away the seconds merrily.
