Apple’s new Mac mini schematics have leaked and here’s what we know so far

The new leaked schematics on the Apple Mac mini show off a slimmer, refreshed design.

While Apple has, in the past, overhauled the design on the MacBook Pro and the iMac, the Mac mini has been relatively ignored. But that's about to change. Leaked schematics of the upcoming Mac mini reveal that Apple is giving it a slightly different look, and that's not all. The new Mac mini is going to come along with the new Apple M1X SoC under the hood.

A few months ago, Jon Prosser had published renders of the “purportedly” next Mac mini, ha has claimed that the machine would could with a slimmer design than the current model. Now, according to @LeaksApplePro, the Mac mini design is going to be slimmer than the current model. @LeaksApplePro claims to have received schematics of the same device. Apple has essentially left the Mac mini's design unchanged since 2010 except for some very minor upgrades it made in 2018.

The schematics of the Mac mini share by @LeaksApplePro on Twitter match the design shown in Prosser's renders so it is possible that these schematics were leaked months ago. Going by these, the new Mac mini is coming with four USB type-C ports, two USB Type-A ports, Ethernet, an HDMI port, and a power connector which could be meant for a magnetic power cord. Prosser's renders also showed off a left-most circular aperture which is expected to be the power button.

According to rumours, Apple is going to launch the next Mac mini in multiple colours, as it has done with the new 24-inch iMac. However, unlike the 24-inch iMac, the Mac mini is going to come with the new M1X SoC under the hood instead of the M1. The in-house M1X SoC comes with 10 CPU cores and up to 32 GPU cores. Earlier in May this year, Mark Gruman had said that Apple has developed two versions of the next silicone - Jade C-Chop and Jade C-Die. And these two might only differ on the basis of GPU cores.

According to @LeaksApplePro, Apple is going to launch the Mac mini by late 2021 or 2022l. This is the first potential release date we've heard so far so we'll have to wait and watch if this indeed turns out to be true. For now, it is not certain. We also know nothing about how much the new Mac mini with M1X is going to cost.
