Samsung Display is making folding screens for Google, Oppo and Xiaomi: Report

Samsung Display is one of the companies that is making an in-folding screen for Google.

We already have companies like Samsung, Motorola, Huawei and Oppo launching foldable smartphones. However, in future we may see other OEMs coming up with their own version of folding handsets, and one of them might be Google. The company back in 2019 confirmed that it was thinking to bring foldable phones at some point. But we haven't seen any folding ‘Pixel' device coming from Google yet. Now, the Korean based outlet The Elec has reported that Google is Indeed working on a foldable handset and has not left the idea in the dark. That's because Samsung Display is one of the companies that is making an in-folding screen for Google.

Although the details were not mentioned, the report did say that Google had requested a 6-inch foldable screen from the South Korean tech firm. For those who aren't aware, this is the same screen size that is used in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. This also indicates that the upcoming Google foldable device might look like the Z Fold 2.

The report also mentions that Samsung is making foldable screens for Oppo and Xiaomi. Oppo screen is said to be a clamshell design, which is similar to what we have seen in Galaxy Z Flip. It is said to have a 7.7-inches screen along with a 1.5-inch to 2-inch screen on the outside. Xiaomi, on the other hand, is using an 8-inch in-folding screen along with a 6.38-inch external screen.

However, it is not clear if this is the same foldable device that was recently codenamed Cetus. What's interesting is that according to The Elec report, all three devices from Google, Oppo and Xiaomi will be launching this year.

Whatever might be the case, Samsung seems to be at an advantage amidst all this. The company is also rumored to supply flexible screens for the upcoming foldable iPhones.
