Amazon’s Crucible to stay in pre-season phase indefinitely

Amazon’s Crucible is widely considered as the company’s first effort at becoming a video game publishing giant. The game, however, has had a rocky start as most of the reviewers sought more fine-tuning. The game has 6/10 rating on Steam, 48% on PC Gamer, and 5/10 on GameSpot. Amazon is finally addressing the concerns as it has extended the pre-season phase indefinitely.

According to Crucible developers, the game will remain in the pre-season phase until all the sought after features and improvements are included in the game.

“While there’s been a great response to the premise of our game from many players, we’ve also heard the feedback that there are features that we need to add as a top priority, like voice chat. We agree, and we’re going to stay in Pre-Season until those features and polish are in Crucible. We’re also going to use our time in Pre-Season as a chance to go all-in on the parts of Crucible that are resonating most strongly with you, our community,” said the developers in a note.

The developers also explained the future roadmap for the game. In the first phase of the update, the Crucible devs will focus on developing features such as voice chat, a system to tackle AFK players, and better ping system among others. They will also work on a mini-map.

The second phase of the update will focus on polishing the game to improve the game experience. Some of the efforts include customising the map for Heart of the Hives, better social system functionality, and so on.

A brief background: Amazon launched Crucible in May this year. The team-based action shooter competes with Fortnite and Apex Legends. In Crucible, the gameplay is based on the choices players make throughout the game.
