‘Now is not the time’, Activision delays next seasons of Call of Duty Mobile, Warzone, and Warfare

Activision on Tuesday said that it is delaying the release of next season of its popular game, Call of Duty Modern Warfare. It has also delayed the new seasons for Call of Duty Mobile and Warzone. The CoD dev team said that the decision was made in the wake of ongoing protests over George Floyd’s death.

“While we look forward to playing the new seasons of Modern Warfare, Warzone, and Call of Duty Mobile, now is not the time. We are moving the launches of Modern Warfare Season 4 and Call of Duty: Mobile Season 7 to later dates. Right now it's time for those speaking up for equality, justice, and change to be seen and heard. We stand alongside you,” said the dev team in a tweet.

According to reports, all the three games were set to launch new seasons later this week. Call of Duty team had also begun posting teasers for the next season within in-app promos.

Modern Warfare and Warzone were reportedly going to have new characters in the season. Call of Duty Mobile is rumoured to add a new map for the battle royale players.

That said, Activision is not the only company to delay new announcements in solidarity with the protestors. Google recently announced that it had postponed the virtual event for the launch of Android 11 beta, originally scheduled for June 3. The company said that “now is not the time to celebrate”, referring to the Covid-19 pandemic and protests over Floyd’s death.
