Facebook rolls out a new cloud gaming service on Android, Web

Facebook on Monday became the latest tech giant to enter the field of cloud-based gaming service. However, instead of launching a separate cloud gaming service just like Google and Amazon did in case of Stadia and Luna, Facebook is introducing its cloud-gaming within its existing gaming service Facebook Gaming.

“All cloud-streamed games are playable in the same way you play games now on Facebook. No special hardware or controllers needed – your hands are the controllers since we’re launching with native mobile games,” Facebook wrote in a blog post.

Facebook today announced that it is launching free-to-play cloud games in beta mode on Android and on the web, where it can be accessed via fb.gg/play. The service, however, will not be available on iOS. The list of games that will be available in Facebook’s cloud gaming service include Asphalt 9: Legends by Gameloft; Mobile Legends: Adventure by Moonton; PGA TOUR Golf Shootout by Concrete Software; Solitaire: Arthur’s Tale by Qublix Games; and WWE SuperCard by 2K Games. In the coming weeks, Facebook will add Dirt Bike Unchained by Red Bull to the service.

Popular games are not the only thing coming to Facebook’s cloud-based gaming service. Facebook said that it is introducing player names and gaming-themed avatars for players to represent themselves in game instead of using their full name and profile picture.

Additionally, the company is introducing Cloud Playable Ads on Android and iOS in the US. This new format will enable the company to support interactive demos from a game’s native code, blurring the line between games and ads. Lastly, Facebook is redesigning the destination for playing games on its native platform. The company is introducing a new Gaming tab, which includes updated discovery and re-engagement features to help players find new games to try and get back into the ones they’ve played.
