Fall Guys to use the same anti-cheat software as Fortnite

As a rule, once a game becomes very popular, players invariably start cheating. Super-popular Fall Guys, with over 7 million Steam sales and counting right now, has started attracting a whole lot of cheats and hacks that are starting to affect other players from enjoying the game.

The game developers behind Fall Guys, Mediatonic, promised in early August that they were working on a solution and there is finally some clarity. Mediatonic is all set to roll out a big update over the next couple of weeks that will add the same anti-cheat software to the game that’s used by the likes of Fortnite.

The tweet from the Fall Guys’ official Twitter handle mentioned that they were “sorry” about the cheating problem and that they were expanding the current detection system to improve things.

Fortnite-maker Epic Games had purchased Kamu back in 2018 which is a Helsinki-based company that created the Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) service. Currently, Kamu lists 124 PC games on its site that use this Easy Anti-Cheat software and by the looks of it, Fall Guys should soon join the list.

If Easy Anti-Cheat works the same way as it does on Fortnite, players will be prompted to install an EAC patch. And they will not be able to play the game until that EAC patch can be detected on your computer.

But till then, Mediatonic has said that they will be expanding their current detection system to catch cheaters in-game. This detection system throws out cheaters at the end of the round they used a cheat in and Mediatonic has tweeted that this system has helped reduce the amount of cheating already.

But while all these checks and balances are fine, plenty of hackers still manage to slip through undetected.

According to TechRadar, an example of this was seen during Fallmania, which was an unofficial $5,000 Fall Guys tournament that was held in late August. During the final round, the “announcers moaned when a hacker flew across the stage, wondering aloud if the four finalists had any chance of winning the crown now”. The cheater has managed to survive several rounds, without getting detected and was finally eliminated during a team game when his teammates refused to play.

Till this EAC patch is added, team games are “players’ only in-game remedy” against cheaters as Mediatonic mentioned in a tweet. 

They encouraged gamers with cheaters on the team to refuse to play so as the cheater gets eliminated. This practice is effective for sure, but it is also frustrating for players to give up on a chance to win since they have just been unlucky enough to be paired with a cheater on their team.
