GTA 6 might not be here for a long while, but Grand Theft Auto fans could soon be treated to a big upgrade later this year, according to a new report. Fans of Rockstar Games popular original Grand Theft Auto trilogy – Vice City, GTA 3, and San Andreas, could reportedly see the arrival of remasters of the original games later this year.
While Rockstar Games is scheduled to drop its upcoming GTA 5 ports for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X ports later this year, the company is reportedly working on releasing the trio of remastered games, according to a report from Kotaku which cites reputable sources that say the trilogy could be released before the arrival of the current-gen version of GTA 5 for the latest consoles.

According to the report, GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas could all be remastered and receive new graphics with the help of the Unreal Engine, and could sport what fans might call a “heavily modded look” when the games arrive. The interface has been updated, but will reportedly retain elements and graphics from the original games and gameplay should feel familiar if you have played these games before.
Remasters of popular games are not uncommon in the gaming world and several iconic titles have seen modern remakes, such as Age of Empires, Sonic Mania, Baldur’s Gate 2, Crash Bandicoot, Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Half-Life (Black Mesa), Resident Evil (and Resident Evil 2), Final Fantasy 7, Ratchet and Clank, Halo and Skyrim. These remastered editions also allow gamers to relive some of the classic gaming experience with modern graphics.
The report also says that Rockstar Dundee could be developing the remasters for all three titles – along with their work on the upcoming GTA 5 ports However, the report is scarce on further details so fans will simply have to wait for Rockstar Games to confirm whether these rumours are true and whether they will see a release of their favourite GTA titles later this year.
