Gamer-friendly Opera GX browser with gaming news, quick gestures launched for smartphones; know what is special

When it comes to gamers, there’s only one browser that provides spectacular features - the Opera GX browser. So, even though Opera may not be the first word that comes to mind in any discussion about web browsers, it is something gamers swear by. Of course, Google Chrome does command the biggest market share as far as overall browser segment is concerned. However, power users have always opted for browsers with more advanced features – Mozilla Firefox, Vivaldi and yes, Opera. Theses are all examples of browsers that offer more customisation and features. However, Opera GX had its limitations. Opera GX was first launched at E3 in 2019 for desktop users running Windows and macOS. Amazingly, mobile phone users were left out! Until now.

So, what makes Opera GX special? A common complaint from users in general is that their browser usually starts using too much memory after more tabs are opened – which can lead to less RAM being available while the game is being played, thereby leading to much frustration being vented. Opera GX, on the other hand, actually manages to cut down on its resource usage for CPU, RAM and network, so that there’s enough for the game to function optimally.

At the recently concluded E3 2021 event, the Norwegian software company announced the launch of Opera GX for Android and iOS devices, bringing several useful features to the browser including a new Floating Action Button (FAB) that helps them navigate easily while browsing. Users will be able to use back, close, search, new tab and forward actions using the FAB button, which also features four slots for top websites, and provides vibration and haptic feedback that is inspired by gaming controllers.

Users can download Opera GX for devices running either Android or iOS via the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store respectively. Once downloaded, users can also share files and links across their devices by scanning a QR code, which the browser maker says can come in handy when one is sharing game tutorials or even files, such as screenshots or screen recordings.

GX Corner, a new section inside the app will keep gamers informed about gaming related news. Opera Flow, the company’s syncing solution will also allow users to quickly transfer their data and bookmarks from the desktop browser to the new mobile app. Meanwhile, users will also have access to the built-in ad blocker and cookie banner remover along with cryptocurrency miner protection. The browser will also feature the same gaming-inspired design that is found on the desktop version - it also features light and dark themes.
