Google Stadia users on iOS can once again use Stadium as it makes a come back to App Store

A few days ago we saw Apple removing Stadium browser app from the App Store. The browser was better known to give users access to Google Stadia platform. The play service doesn’t exist on the App Store due to Apple’s guidelines. While that move did make several users disappointed, Apple has now brought it back to its app market. Zachary Knox, the developer of the Stadium app revealed the news on his website and added that the browser is back as Stadium 1.2.

Explaining what’s different now, the developer adds that he had to “remove my hooks between the GameController framework and WebKit,” something Apple had issues with before. As per him, Apple said that “Using public APIs in a manner not prescribed by Apple”. So, for Knox, “This is unfortunate, but not a complete loss.”

However, it has been mentioned that the browser app might not be as stable as before in case you are using a Bluetooth controller to play Google Stadia games. That’s because now the app uses one custom user agent to get Stadia to work and then overrides it after to allow the gamepad to work. Knox did say that this method might fail at times. 

“Bluetooth controllers might work. Using the “Override User Agent” I mentioned, Stadia should properly support the Gamepad API, but iOS doesn’t always seem to pass that through. I have gotten it to work more than once, but definitely not every time I tried,” he said.

However, in case you have a Stadia Controller, it should work fine as it won’t use Bluetooth anyway.
