Microsoft Xbox Series X, S get support for Dolby Vision gaming test

Dolby, last September, announced that the Xbox Series S and Series X will get support for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision HDR. Today, the company has rolled out the feature on the Xbox Series X and S gaming consoles for testers who are a part of the Xbox Insider’s Alpha Ring group.

Microsoft, as per a report by The Verge, says the feature will bring ‘brighter highlights, sharper contrast, and more vibrant colours’ while playing various games on the two gaming consoles on a Dolby Vision-compatible TV. The company further says that the update will offer clarity in light and dark scenes.

Dolby Vision games automatically map to any display with Dolby Vision, you’re always seeing the best possible picture available,” the company says. “This means … no more sliders to adjust your picture settings.” However, it advises that testers might need to update their TV’s firmware to take full advantage of the technology.

“When you play in Dolby Vision, you unlock the most realistic and lifelike visuals the game has to offer, with brightness, contrast, colour, and depth that goes beyond even traditional HDR games. Experience the world the way it was meant to be seen,” Dolby says. Dolby also says that Dolby Vision offers up to 40x highlights and 10x deeper blacks that are as deep as ‘void of outer space to life.’

To check if your TV is compatible with Dolby Vision by pressing the Xbox button to open the guide > select Profile & System button > go to Settings > now go to General option > select TV & Display option > 4K TV details.
