Minecraft is going to come to PlayStation VR as a free upgrade later this month

Minecraft is all set to get a free upgrade this month which will make the game playable on PlayStation VR. This update, which is going to roll out later this month, was announced by Mojang Studios in a blog post. Mojang has added that the upgrade is going to come as a free download patch for all players.

PlayStation VR (PSVR) Minecraft is something fans have been asking for from the company for a while now and though the very popular game can already be played on various virtual reality platforms, like on Oculus Rift (launched in 2016), Sony’s VR hardware has been overlooked till now.

The game studio said that everyone who has Minecraft on PlayStation 4 will get the patch automatically and once you download the patch you will be able to access the new Minecraft VR functionality. You will obviously need the PS VR set to use it.

Mojang also shared a few screenshots of what appeared to be Minecraft in PS VR on the blog.

The developers have said that the PS VR version of the game is going to be 100% the same Minecraft you have been playing on Playstation 4, nothing removed. “100% wholesome” and “pure full-fat Minecraft”.

There are going to be some minor in-game tweaks to the game interface and set-up for VR and players will be able to use the PS4 controller to move about and do things while looking through the PS VR headset. Mojang mentions in the blog that the game will have two modes - Living Room and Immersive, but hasn’t gone into details about it.

Despite being a decade old, Minecraft still continues to be popular Microsoft had announced earlier this year that the game sales now topped 200 million across platforms with a spike in usage happening during the onset of the pandemic.
