Netflix ventures into mobile gaming with five games

Netflix is known for its diverse collection of movies and series and its original content, which includes shows like Squid Game and Money Heist to name a few. Today, the streaming giant expanded its product portfolio to include mobile gaming into the mix. Netflix today announced that it is venturing into mobile gaming with five mobile games. The list includes Stranger Things: 1984 (BonusXP), Stranger Things 3: The Game (BonusXP), Shooting Hoops (Frosty Pop), Card Blast (Amuzo & Rogue Games), and Teeter Up (Frosty Pop).

As far as the features are concerned, Netflix said that its newly introduced mobile gaming service is available to all Netflix users across the globe at no additional cost via a paid subscription. This is similar to the way Amazon provides access to various services including Prime Video and Prime music via its standard subscription.

The streaming giant said that its mobile gaming service will feature no ads or in-app purchases at all and that Netflix subscribers will be able to play games on multiple mobile devices on the same account. “If you hit your device limit— we’ll let you know and, if needed, you can sign out of devices not in use or deactivate them remotely on Netflix.com to free up a slot,” the company said.

Another interesting thing about Netflix’s mobile gaming service is that its games will also be accessible in areas with no internet connectivity based on the requirements of the specific game. Also, these games will be available in a variety of languages, just like the content on Netflix, and they will automatically default to the preference set in users’ Netflix profiles. However, if a user’s language is not yet available, the game will default to English.

For parents who are worried about their kids getting hooked to these games via their own profiles, Netflix said that these games are not available on kids profiles. “If you’ve set up a PIN to prevent kids from having access to adult profiles, that same PIN will be required in order to log in to Netflix and play the game on a device,” the company added.

Lastly, availability. Netflix said that its mobile games are currently available on Android devices -- smartphones and tablets -- only. There is no word on when this feature will be available within Netflix’s iOS-based app.
