Not just Garena Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Badlanders to Stick Fight, check list of banned apps

National security threat perception has got the popular game Garena Free Fire banned in India. It left many of its Indian fans in a state of shock! As soon as the news surfaced that the government banned 54 Chinese apps in India and that Garena Free Fire was part of the list, it left shock waves rippling through the fandom. Due to the ban, gamers will not be able to download Garena Free Fire on Android phones or iPhones. Though the ones who already have the game downloaded on their smartphones can play it, but this may not last long. They can of course, try Garena Free Fire Max game, which is the higher version of Free Fire game and it is still available on Android smartphones. No, Garena Free Fire Max has not been banned from Google Play Store yet, although it has been removed from Apple App Store. However, this sudden ban slapped on Chinese apps was not the first time this has happened. Earlier, a number of other mobile games were banned in India. Yes, you guessed right! One of them is PUBG Mobile. The situation was the same for PUBG lovers back in 2020 when the government suddenly announced the ban on their favourite title. But the list has more name on it. Within the last two years, a number of Garena Free Fire-like games have been banned in India. Here’s the list brought up to date.

PUBG Mobile

One of the most popular games, PUBG Mobile India was banned back in 2020 by the Indian government citing security concerns due to its links with China. However, PUBG fans got relief after some months as PUBG made a comeback in the form of Battlegrounds Mobile India. It was launched last year in July. And now, even the latest game by Krafton, PUBG: New State, is available for Indian players. Krafton is a South Korean company and it severed all its links with China when it rolled out these new games in India.

PUBG Mobile Lite

Along with the main PUBG Mobile game, the Indian government also banned PUBG Mobile Lite. The lite variant of the game. PUBG made a comeback in the form of BGMI, but for the Lite version of it, there is no official news as yet although fans have been making demands for its rollout too.

Badlanders

From the recent 54 banned apps in India, Badlanders is one of other games besides Garena Free Fire which got banned in India. The developer of the game is NetEase Games.

Cyber Hunter

Amongst the 118 Chinese apps that got banned in India in 2020, NetEase Games' Cyber Hunter was one. It was launched in 2019 with a futuristic survival shooting weapons and sci-fi theme.

Rules of Survival

NetEase Games’ Rules of Survival, the 2017 free-to-play battle royale shooter game was blocked along with others in 2020 by the Indian government.

Ride Out Heroes

Here’s another one from the same game developer! Ride Out Heroes was also a NetEase Games title that got banned in India during the 2020 mass ban.

Knives Out

Knives Out is the name of another NetEase Games shooting game that was banned by the Indian government in 2020. It has most of the features similar to the other battle royale games.

Developed by NetEase (who also own the previous two titles mentioned in the list), this game is an mythical action based super power game with unique characters and featured a manga (Japanese comics or graphic novels) like style. It was also downloaded more than a million times.
