Pokemon Unite MOBA game launched; offers Android, iOS support

Pokemon Unite has finally been launched on smartphones running iOS and Android, nearly two months after it arrived on the Nintendo Switch in July. The MOBA game, which allows users to play in teams of five Pokemon trainers, is The Pokemon Company and TiMi Studio’s latest free-to-play game and the first multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game in the entire franchise.

On Wednesday, the Pokemon Unite team posted a message on its blog, stating that the MOBA game had been launched for iOS and Android smartphones. Players who were previously playing on their Nintendo Switch consoles or waiting for the game to launch on mobile devices can now head over to the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store on their iPhone to download the Pokemon Unite MOBA game. Gamers will also be able to sign in on their phones and enjoy cross-platform support.

MOBA games can be short, but very intense, and Pokemon Unite involves very interesting battles with gamers in groups of five, who battle each other in an arena, where the teams who score the most points win the game. Catching Pokemon, evolving them and battling opponents are the fastest way to win the game.

Most free to play games are supported by in-app purchases and Pokemon Unite offers users the chance to take advantage of a second battle pass, which comes with new cosmetic items, including new Holowear with special visual effects. The game is also getting limited support spectator mode, while users will also be able try out the newly introduced Unite Squads that allow Trainers to join up with their friends.

The Pokemon Unite MOBA game offers account linking as well as cross-platform play. This means that you will need to sign into your Nintendo Switch and your smartphone with the same linked account and then users can play on both platforms – or even across two smartphones.
