In the latest PUBG news, PUBG Battlegrounds is going for a “free to play” model. Yes, following in the footsteps of Call of Duty Warzone, Halo Infinite Multiplayer, Apex Legends, Valorant, and similar FPS multiplayer survival shooters, PUBG Battlegrounds is finally going to be a free to play title – no need to buy it anymore. The announcement came at “The Game Awards” and the changes will be incorporated starting January 2022.
In fact, if you seek an exact date, mark January 12 on your calendars. The PUBG Battlegrounds is currently available with a price tag on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation and Stadia. While you may assume it would be a foolish idea to buy the game now, there are a few benefits for those who already bought the game.

Quite a lot, actually. With a free to play model, the developer is looking reap profits with a premium pass that offers special goodies in-game. Called Battlegrounds Plus, the subscription will cost $12.99 for players and will include some DLCs as well as extra benefits. Note that Battlegrounds Plus will be a one-time purchase.
With Battlegrounds Plus subscription, you will be able to get:
- Survival Mastery XP +100% boost
- Career – Medal tab
- Ranked Mode
- Creating and playing a Custom Match
- Captain’s Camo Hat
- Captain’s Camo Mask
- Captain’s Camo Gloves
- Bonus 1300 G-COIN
For existing players, PUBG Battlegrounds has a bunch of extras and rewards to thank for the support over the last few years. They will get the PUBG – Special Commemorative Pack, which includes:
