Samsung working with Sony to resolve PS5 issues with 4K HDR high refresh rate TVs

Gaming consoles like the Xbox Series X and the Sony PS5 are truly state of the art when it comes to modern console gaming - especially in the graphics department, with both devices supporting top-notch 120Hz refresh rates at 4K resolution with HDR enabled.

However, not all 4K TVs that support 4K with HDR at a refresh rate of 120Hz are currently working with the PS5 for a peculiar reason, according to a report by SamMobile, which states that Samsung’s high-end TVs such as the Q80T, the Q90T and the Q100R refusing to support the console’s ‘maximum settings’ output.

The Samsung TVs in question do support the mandatory HDMI 2.1 connector which is necessary if you want to display content at 4K resolution with HDR at 120Hz. If you’re wondering why this is happening when these devices seem to work perfectly fine with the correct resolution on the Xbox Series X, while other TVs seem to work fine with the PS5, the issue isn’t because of the Samsung TVs but actually appears to be due to the PS5 console itself.

According to the report, Samsung has confirmed that it is working with Sony to resolve the issue which lies in how the PS5 sends out the HDR signal to Samsung’s TVs, which suggests that the issue could be resolved by a simple software update to the PS5.

If you use a PS5 and own one of these high-end Samsung TVs, you have two choices until the update rolls out to your console - either game at 4K resolution at 120Hz without HDR, or switch to a lower 60Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution plus HDR. You can also keep an eye out for any software updates rolling out in the coming months for entries in the change-log which will indicate that the issue has been resolved.
