Sony is facing a class action lawsuit over PS5 controller joystick malfunction

Sony is currently facing a class action lawsuit. The company is being sued and accused of consumer fraud over its PlayStation 5 Controller and the class action lawsuit was filed after numerous users experienced issues with the DualSense controller.

According to AndroidHeadlines, many consumers have been facing issues with the controller and its functioning. Over the last few months many users have reported an issue known as a ‘drift’.

Drift is an issue where the joystick of the controllers malfunction. This cases unintentional movements or shift in camera angles without any input from the user. So one can face issues during gameplay due to these unintended inputs thanks to a faulty controller.

A similar problem was also observed with the Nintendo Switch and users who were initially facing the issues were quick to catch on to the problems.

The first reports about Sony’s lawsuit appeared last week and back then the law firm involved was “only gathering information from affected consumers”. The firm is now moving forward with the lawsuit.

The goal of the lawsuit being brought against Sony is over consumer fraud and the aim is make the company offer free replacements. If sony loses the lawsuit, it does not mean that everyone who has bought a PS5 is going to get a DualSense controller for free. Only people who have opted into the class action lawsuit will receive a new controller, if the lawsuit is successful.

The legal course is also seeking damages for “potential out of pocket expenses” as well to reimburse those who have had to buy a new controller.
