One of the biggest challenges facing PlayStation 5 owners who purchased the flagship console from Sony will soon be a thing of the past, according to a new report from Bloomberg citing people aware of the company’s plan.
While Sony’s PlayStation 5 console brings fantastic visuals and smooth and optimised gameplay, a side effect of the next-gen specs is the massive size of games, presumably due to the sizes of the higher resolution assets. With games taking up over a hundred gigabytes of storage, the console’s 667-gigabyte storage space means you won’t be able to install more than 5 games at a time.

However, that could change soon, with Bloomberg reporting that Sony is likely to make changes to the PlayStation 5 firmware that will allow for plugging in an external storage device. Unlike the traditional method of simply adding another drive, the report states that the consoles hardware optimisations do not allow for such an arrangement.
With the planned firmware upgrade, the report claims that the drive will allow users to simply remove a cover from the PS5 and affix a new drive - this should work in the same fashion as that of PlayStation 4 games.
In other recent news concerning Sony’s new gaming console, multiple reports have emerged that the DualSense controller has some serious rocker drift issues. Players have claimed that the DualSense controller has a stick drift, which has allegedly persisted an update installed by Sony. The controller issue reportedly makes characters in a game move without the plate’s command and can also cause camera angles to change, leading to disruptions in the game.
