Sony PlayStation App gets voice chat and new UI just ahead of PS5 launch

Sony’s PlayStation 5 is going to be launched in just a few days on November 12, and as a build-up to that, the company has launched quite a big update to the PlayStation App on both Android and iOS. 

The update brings in a new, revamped user interface (UI), voice chat support, the native PlayStation Store integration and, as per XDA Developers, a “much more refined experience”.

The revamped PlayStation App is rolling out globally and is available for Android 6.0 and later versions.

The main changes and additions to the app include the updated UI that brings in a refreshed home screen that will allow users to see what their friends are playing and also get access details of recently played games.

PS Messages app has been integrated into the PlayStation App (PS App) so it’s going to be easier for users to keep in touch with friends. This also means that the PS Messages app is going to be discontinued.

Thanks to this new integration, users can create groups on the PS App and also voice chat with up to 15 people at a time.

The PlayStation Store is also native to the updated PS App now. This provides for a faster shopping experience and users can also download games and add-ons directly to their PS4 or PS5.

One PS5 launches, users will be able to remotely launch games and manage storage, among other things, from the PS App.

As part of the update, Sony said it’s “looking into feedback regarding changes made to Parties in the 8.00 update”. While the company has nothing to share about that right now, they have said that they are listening and evaluating.

The updated PS App is already available and you need a PlayStation account to make the most of it.
