Ubisoft, Lucasfilm join hands to launch a new Star Wars game

A new Star Wars game is finally coming! Ubisoft today announced that it is collaborating with Lucasfilm to launch a new Star Wars gaming title. This marks the end of an era of cooperation between Lucasfilm and Electronic Arts for the same.

Ubisoft today announced that its Swedish studio Massive Entertainment that is best known for Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will be developing the upcoming Star Wars gaming title called Star Wars Open World. The company will use its Snowdrop engine “to deliver a groundbreaking Star Wars adventure.”

“This is the beginning of a long-term collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm Games, and we are pleased to be working hand-in-hand to build upon the incredible legacy of Lucasfilm to create a game that we know Star Wars fans will love,” Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft said announcing the news.

“Ubisoft have a unique talent for crafting immersive worlds so we’re thrilled to work with them on this project...We are inspired by the passion and talent of the team at Massive, and together we share a vision for the type of original stories we want to tell with our players in this expansive galaxy. They have the creativity, experience, and community understanding to bring awe-inspiring authenticity, depth and innovation to this new Star Wars game,” Douglas Reilly, VP, Lucasfilm Games said on the occasion.

The latest move marks the end of exclusivity of Lucasfilm with EA for developing the critically acclaimed Star Wars titles, which includes Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars: Squadrons and the Battlefront moniker. The 10-year deal was signed in 2013 and it is set to expire in 2023.

“We’re really proud of the games we have created with EA...We will continue working with them and our relationship has never been stronger. While we may not have a lot of details to share at the moment, we’ve got a number of projects underway with the talented teams at EA,” Reilly said over collaboration with EA.
