Bang & Olufsen launches a speaker that looks like a book

It looks like this year is turning out to be the year of some unusual looking speakers by audio companies. A few weeks ago we saw Sony launching a speaker with a shaving machine design and now we have Bang & Olufsen that has launched a speaker that looks like a book. The company’s new Beosound Emerge speaker appears like a book that is neatly shut and can fit in your bookshelf as well. Although the speaker gets a bit wide at the back, when looked from the side, it might just trick you into thinking something else.

Bang & Olufsen’s Beosound Emerge throws higher sound frequencies from the front using the 14mm tweeter. The lower frequency audio comes out from the side firing 100mm woofers. What’s more is that if you have two of these or any other B&O speaker, they can be merged to deliver a stereo sound. It supports AirPlay 2 and Chromecast and has voice-controlled Google Assistant speakers as well.

What gives this speaker a premium look are the materials used like oak, pearl-blasted aluminum, and woven textile. There are buttons at the top as well to control audio playback along with volume adjustment.

This speaker is priced at 599 EUR for the Black Anthracite color model and 749 EUR ($897) in Gold Tone. For now, it is available in European markets and the global availability is said to begin from later this year.

Talking about the design of the speaker, Sony is not the only one that launched a 360 Reality Audio speaker looking like an electric shaver, but Harman Kardon also recently introduced SoundSticks 4 transparent speaker in India.
