Now you can stream songs from Apple Music on Google Nest smart speakers

Google joined forces with Apple earlier this year in order to jointly develop a contact tracing technology that would help in determining the spread of Covid-19 infection. Now, the two companies have joined forces once again. But this time it is to give audiophiles more options to stream music from.

Sounds confusing? But it isn’t! Google today announced that starting today, Apple Music subscribers will be able to stream their favourite songs and playlists directly on their Google Nest smart speakers and smart displays. The list includes Nest Audio, Nest Hub Max and Nest Mini among others.

To play songs and playlists from Apple Music, you will first have to link your Apple Music account in the Google Home app. Once you do so, you will be able to stream your favourite songs from Apple Music as easily as you do in case of other music streaming services such as YouTube Music.

Alternatively, you can also select Apple Music as your default music streaming service. Once you do that all you have to do is say, “Hey Google, play New Music Daily playlist,” or “Hey Google, play Rap Life playlist.”

Google says that you can ask Google Assistant to play any specific song, artist or playlist available on Apple Music. You can also play music based on genre, mood, or activity. You can also play your liked songs from your Apple Music library by saying, “Hey Google, play my songs” or “Hey Google, play my library.”

And if you have more than one compatible smart speaker or display, you can use the multi-room control feature in the Google Home app or on a Nest smart display to dynamically move your music from one device to the other. You can play music on all of the devices in your home by saying, “Hey Google, play music on all my speakers.”

Google says that Apple Music support will be rolling out to Nest and other Google Assistant-powered smart speakers and smart displays in the US, UK, Germany, France and Japan starting today. It will be available in other countries in the coming days.
