Walmart to launch Onn-branded Android TV stick soon

Walmart offers a host of devices under its electronics brand Onn. The list includes tablets, wireless speakers, TVs, headphones and soundbars among other things. Now, word is that the company is planning to add another device to the list: a streaming stick.

According to a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) listing spotted by Android TV Guide, Walmart is planning to launch an Android TV streaming stick soon. This streaming stick will be available in the matte black finish along with a white remote.

The entire package will include a streaming stick, a USB cable, an HDMI extension cable, a power adapter and a voice remote. The remote has bookmark, settings and Google Assistant buttons on top, control keys in the middle and separate quick access buttons for YouTube, Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max. There is an ‘Onn.’ branding right under these buttons.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the FCC listing reveals that Walmart’s upcoming streaming stick will run on Android TV 10. It will run on Amlogic’s S805Y chipset. The report also says that it will be certified for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video and that it is based on Google's new design reference.

As per a separate report by 9To5 Google, the upcoming streaming stick will miss out on 4K streaming quality and that it will offer video at 1089p60. This indicates that Walmart’s upcoming device will be an entry-level device and offer fairly basic specifications.

Walmart hasn’t revealed a launch date yet. But with the streaming stick being listed on FCC, it shouldn’t be far from launch.
