Aarogya Setu now used by 12 crore Indians, says PM Modi

Aarogya Setu, the Covid-19 tracking app that was launched on April 2, has crossed the 12 crore download mark. Being one of the most downloaded health apps in the country, this milestone is touched days after the app went open source for Android developers. The 12 crore download milestone also got a mention by Indian PM Narendra Modi.

“I am sure you have heard of “ArogyaSetu.” 12 crore health-conscious people have downloaded it. This has been very helpful in the fight against Coronavirus,” said the PM. It is one of the three things that PM Modi wants more people to talk about.

For what’s worth, Aarogya Setu also became the fastest to reach 50 million users in 13 days. It’s worth pointing out that Aarogya Setu has been made mandatory in offices and in areas like air and rail travel. It crossed the 10 crore download milestone on May 13.

Last week, during the announcement of Aarogya Setu going open source, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said that So far over 8 lakh people have completed their self-assessment on the app. He added that the app has alerted more than 140,000 users of potential risk of infection.

Since the launch, the app has undergone various updates, including a section to function as an e-pass for those who need to step out over the lockdown. The app also gets live updates on the Covid-19 infection.

Aarogya Setu uses Bluetooth and GPS connectivity to help track the Covid-19 infection. On the app, users can check whether they've come in contact with a Covid-19 infected person and the app allows users to self-assess their symptoms as well.
