AI robot mistakes referee’s bald head with a football, tracks it throughout the match

Experts, tech company CEOs and almost everyone has been echoing the same voice in the tech industry for years – AI will be the future. And yes, it has been improving every year with a bunch of new algorithms powering it. However, there still needs a lot to be done. So, when an AI fails, it often becomes a hilarious sight to see. Something similar happened recently in a match between Iverness football team and Ayr United. 

As it turns out, Iverness stadium recently decided to live stream its matches since people are not allowed to watch matches in the stadium. And as a part of this decision, Iverness started using an AI robot camera that is supposed to track the shiny football. But instead, it mistakenly started tracking the shiny round head of the assistant refrees, which indeed resulted in abrupt camera movements towards the refree and often skipping between his head and the actual football.

It obviously, annoyed a lot of fans watching this at homes and who have paid $13 to watch the, well, bald head.

As per a local media (via Digital Trends), some fans even took it to the social media to vent out their anger. They even said that referees can wear a wig if the AI is not able to track the football.

Taking about AI and robots, Disney recently shared a research that details how it plans on making humanoid robots a tad bit more human, at least as far as eye movements and head movements are concerned. Gizmodo reports that Disney’s team is trying to fix the dead-eye stare of humanoid robots.
