Apple iOS 14.2 public beta: Music recognition feature, updated widgets and more

Apple has just rolled out its iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 to all the end users but the future versions are already under works as the company has rolled out iOS and iPadOS 14.2 in public beta. 

So, those enrolled for the public beta updates program will get this as an OTA update. But what does the new iOS 14.2 version brings onboard? 

One of the changes you can see is the music recognition function in the Control Centre. The feature is integrated with Apple’s Shazam. As expected, it will let you recognize music that is playing nearly and even inside apps.

The ‘Now Playing’ widget has also been updated for the Control Centre. It will now display the recently played music when there’s no music playing. Also included, is the new interface for AirPlay is supposed to make it easier to connect with multiple AirPlay 2 devices.

Lastly, there’s a new ‘People Detection’ feature in iOS 14.2 that will use the camera’s abilities to determine how near or far is the person standing from you. This feature is found inside the Magnifier app.

Talking about iOS 14, Google recently made its Search widget available on the platform. This came alongside a Gmail update that lets you make it as a default emailing app. However, some users are disappointed with YouTube since the video platform has introduced PiP mode in iOS 14 but only for ‘Premium’ customers. 

And this is not all, YouTube has still not brought the ‘promised’ 4K resolution playback on tvOS 14. Although the feature was there in beta versions, the final version doesn’t have it yet. “Sorry about the back and forth — jumping in to clarify that Apple TV 4K will support 4K playback soon.
