The last year has been quite a nightmare for most manufacturers who have been trying to get new products into the market, and automakers are one of them, including Telsa. However, 2021 has been particularly hard for the company. Helmed by CEO Elon Musk, Tesla has been forced to shift its product timelines several times already in response to the global pandemic and microchip shortage. Now, recent reports from a company meeting suggest that one of its most-awaited products - the Cybertruck - might be delayed further, taking longer than earlier predicted to get to customers.

Musk reportedly said during an all-hands meeting that the Tesla Cybertruck was going to go into production by late 2022 and volume production was going to happen by 2023. Earlier it had been announced that Tesla was officially moving the production and delivery dates to 2022 and this new announcement is another shift for the Cybertruck. Comments made by Musk on Tesla AI Day was a confirmation of Tesla’s official move as he said that the next-gen Autopilot hardware was going to make its debut with the truck in “about a year or so”.

Despite all the delays, Musk has said that the Cybertruck is a “special project” and is going to be like a “glitch in the Matrix”. While there is absolutely no clarity about what exactly that means, it is clear that the Tesla Cybertruck is quite close to Musk’s heart. And this also makes it clear that the Cybertruck is going to be a modern marvel and that Tesla is quite serious about making it stand out from its other vehicles. So far we know that the Cybertruck is going to be equipped with next-generation autopilot hardware, and “reasonable” pricing, by Tesla standards at least, which should make it stand out from the company’s other offerings.

The news of Musk’s all-hands meeting and the delay in the Cybertruck production comes just a day after the CEO confirmed setbacks for another Tesla vehicle - the Roadster. Replying to a tweet, Musk said that the Roadster deliveries would happen by 2023, which is much later than expected, but only if 2022 does not turn out to be “mega drama”.

Supply chain issues have plagued the entire auto industry and Tesla is no different. Musk noted that “it wouldn’t matter if we had 17 new products, as none of them would ship”.
